Governing Body Structure
In 2025–26 the governing body moved from a traditional committee structure to a streamlined governance model. Previously, the same governors attended multiple committees as well as full governing board meetings, resulting in around fifteen meetings each year. To improve efficiency and ensure more focused discussions, this has now been reduced to seven strategically planned meetings across the academic year.
All trustees now meet together as the Full Governing Board, which allows governors to consider academic performance, finance, safeguarding and strategic priorities collectively. This approach ensures that all governors have a shared understanding of the school’s work and can contribute fully to discussions and decision-making.
Within this structure, trustees take on lead roles in key areas of responsibility, such as academic performance, finance, health and safety and staffing. These lead roles support monitoring and oversight, with updates shared at full board meetings.
The governing body is supported by a Clerk, who ensures meetings are properly organised and recorded, and by the Chair of Governors, who leads the work of the board and guides its strategic direction.
Trustees normally serve four-year terms, providing continuity while also allowing opportunities for new perspectives over time.
This streamlined approach enables the governing body to focus on the school’s strategic priorities, educational outcomes and financial sustainability, while maintaining strong oversight and effective governance.
