Within EYFS and Key Stage 1, 'Read, Write, Inc.' is used to structure the teaching of Phonics, Early Reading and writing. Children are taught initial sounds, digraphs and blending early on in their school 'career'. They are given all the necessary tools needed to become confident, fluent readers. As fluency develops, the children are then able to access our well equipped library, containing a wide range of reading material.
Children in Reception and Year 1 will be taught discrete daily Read, Write, Inc sessions and develop comprehension skills through the daily reading of the 'Read, Write. Inc.' storybooks. These books aim to develop the fluency and confidence of the reader.
In order to support children at home, parents of EYFS children are given access to weekly Read, Write, Inc virtual classroom videos to share with their children at home. In addition to this, each child has access to an ebook library of fully decodable books - both fiction and non-fiction.
Children in Year 2 are taught daily Guided Reading sessions.
Please see the attached document showing the coverage and expectations of 'Read, Write, Inc.' for each year group.
