Within EYFS and Key Stage 1, a scheme called 'Read, Write, Inc.' is used to structure the teaching of Phonics and Early Reading. Children are taught initial sounds, digraphs and blending early on in their school 'career'. They are given all the necessary tools needed to become confident, fluent readers. As fluency develops, the children are then able to access our well equipped library, containing a wide range of reading material.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will be taught discrete daily 'Speed Sounds' sessions and develop comprehension skills through the daily reading of the 'Read, Write. Inc.' storybooks. These books aim to develop the fluency and confidence of the reader.
Please see the attached document showing the coverage and expectations of 'Read, Write, Inc.' for each year group.
